Det har tilmed en afgørende betydning, hvornår i processen brolæggeren skal inddrages i dit brolægningsprojekt. Valget af sten eller fliser er nok det vigtigste (og sværeste) valg for mange. Sten er ofte et sikkert valg, når det kommer til belægningsarbejde. I modsætning til fliser har belægningssten et mindre overfladeareal og er samtidig tykkere. Det betyder, at belægningssten generelt er robuste, og de kan dermed holde til meget – både i forhold til vægt og slitage. Sten er derfor et populært valg til særligt indkørsler, hvor grunden skal kunne holde til den daglige vægt fra biler.
Inden for belægningssten kan du eksempelvis vælge herregårdssten, kløversten eller hollændersten. Herregårdssten er nok det mest klassiske valg med deres firkantede former og høje robusthed – men hvis du ønsker et mere unikt look til din indkørsel, terrasse eller lignende, kan du også overveje de trekantede kløversten eller de aflange hollændersten.

Du har også mulighed for at spice dit brolægningsprojekt op ved at gå med en fliseløsning. Hvis du vælger fliseløsningen, er der dog flere ting, du skal have med i overvejelserne – især hvis fliserne skal lægges i din indkørsel.
Fliser har, som nævnt, ofte et større overfladeareal end sten, hvorfor de enkeltvis vil blive udsat for mere vægt på én gang. Valg af område og materialer samt forarbejdet er altså mindst lige så vigtige faktorer som selve belægningsarbejdet. Hvis du eksempelvis skal have lavet en indkørsel på et specifikt areal, skal du i processens begyndelse have in mente, at der skal være 20 centimeters “luft” på hver side af indkørslen. På den måde undgår du, at stenene eller fliserne skrider ud ved løbende belastning.
Hvis du henter professionel hjælp til brolægning er god dialog og løbende involvering generelt nøglen til et slutresultat, der falder lige i din smag. En tæt dialog sikrer nemlig, at processen går i den rigtige retning, og at misforståelser udebliver.
